Jammer

We have a jammer in Spokane

It started around a 2010, where the jammer would use the I.E.V.H.F.Radio Amateur Club's auto patch repeater to dial-up a person to harass. Recently the number has been "disable" as to stop the action. But the jammer has not been stopped. More recently; jammers have been on the KBARA repeaters which is part of the evergreen intertie.

Shortly after that the jammer as come over to 147.20 repeater to do the same. The jammer is smart and uses both VHF and UHF bands to screw up the repeaters and links. One owner of the intertie has gathered some data about the location(s), and reports the jammer is on the watch out for direction finding people.

Recently, many frequencies and repeaters have been affected, including crossband repeating from UHF repeater(s) to 75 meters, over the top of existing conversations going on.

Sources indicate the state "OO" has turned the case over to the FCC. To date it's unknown if anything has been done to stop the jammer, or if anything will be done. Our frequency coordinator suggested to contact Dennis Anderson with the FCC. It's unknown if anything is in "works" but if our government doesn't hear anything, they can assume everything's ok, so contact them.

Let's not let this be the 'normal' thing in Spokane. In Seattle it seems more and more to be that way. Look at the "Geno" situation in the Seattle area. This person was making bomb threats over the air to Federal buildings. He even was on aircraft requencies, probably trying to crash a plane. It's rumored that the FCC and FBI know about "Geno" but to date the guy is still free to do his "thing". There is something wrong with this picture. Do you care to ask yourself that?

These are the kind of things in our amateur community that our "officials" need to be pressured into making it a priority to clean up. If you have some ideas for organizing a proper group to work with our government, by all means please do so. The sooner we clean up over bands the sooner we can get back to enjoying the hobby.

Update: on November 4th, 2000 around 20 Amateurs met to discuss the situation and what to do about it. Thank goodness our State "OO" was present, who came all the way from Yakima that day. A possible suspect was discussed, however it was also noted without proper documentation it's just a rumor and not valid. There needs to be an organized task force to bunny hunt the culprit to report to our "00". If the culprit is found, the locals hope our system does not fail us, like you hear in other stories in the news, and such. Later, after the meeting it was agreed email reports and efforts should be coordinated with our "OO" in Spokane.

As of 2008 another individual has turned "bad" and causing problems on several repeaters in the Spokane area. In addition, it's suspected this person has moved on to police frequencies as well. During this period John Dempster, W7OE has aggreed to be the POC on coordinating efforts on this issue. He can be reached on the 147.38 repeater, in Spokane, after normal work hours.
