Shopping for a can ?

The 1M does have a bog problem when leaning into the deep snow, to the right for more than a few seconds. The author also notice on the 2003 that "deflector" is a joke. Also the tail pipe gets "beat up" by logs, rocks and other things encountered in the early season, in the trees. As you can see in the pictures, most of it was cut off, in an attempt to correct these problems. However the bog is still there.

It was also learned this was the wrong approach. The key is to routing the exhaust gases away from the area of the stock outlet, or "plow" away the snow with a better deflector than stock, according to one source. The stock one in the picture is not enough. This would be a "V" shape deflector, about 5" long (each wing) and about 2 1/2" down, from the belly pan. Of course this will be subject to damage when running over logs in the early season, so one needs to be careful. The idea is to lower the pressure build-up that occurs when leaning to the right; the rolled chaincase cover creates a "wall" of pressurized snow to build up and force the gases back into the pipe causing engine bog.

Several sources for aftermarket cans were found for the 2003 1M 800, however if you ask them, they have many other models for most brands of sleds, for other years, as well.

As of July 2006 I found a possible product that might be the answer. As of printing of this note the author's going to write the company for information. Since that date Neil's been hard to reach. Being that the picture showed a real nice "package" persistance paid off. During the year of 2007 and several emails and phone calls, Neil was able to sell a can. It was spected for the 03 1M 800. It's a nice product. There were some issues for proper fit. Also there was no installation instructions, so the Auther created some. For extensive information on the installation click HERE for more information.

Remember to tread lightly around those "greenies".

It's hoped this will assist you with your choice for a can.
