Notes:FRS channel 7 has a lot of interference East of the Spokane Area, over to Idaho. The package/manual that comes with your radio uses "generic" terms, such as "5-mile range" and "sub-channels". Range is variable and this is a poor description on coverage. Most of the radios are 1/2 to 1 watt, which might give you a slightly better idea of coverage. If you have any obstructions (hills, etc.) all bets are off. There are no such things as sub channels. What they are "trying" to say, when you are on a channel you have a choice to limit what you will receive from your other buddies. For example if you are on channel 5, any sub-code you go on is STILL on channel 5, just that you will only hear traffic on whatever sub-code you set your radio to, and the same with your buddies. If there is traffic on the channel, but on another code than what your group is on, the group will not hear that other traffic, but will get covered up in the event both groups are trying to talk. This may be why sometimes communication gets lost among the group.
